At TTE Ellesmere Port, we’ve been helping young people for many years to take their first steps into engineering, science, and process industries. We deliver structured, employer-aligned apprenticeships that work for learners, for businesses, and for the sectors that rely on skilled, site-ready talent.
And right now, the apprenticeship landscape is changing fast. If you’re considering your next move, or helping someone else make theirs, our Open Evening on Monday 17th November 2025 is the best place to start.
What the market Is telling us
According to the Institute of Student Employers (ISE), apprenticeship hiring has risen by 8% in 2025, while graduate recruitment has fallen by the same margin. That’s not a blip, it’s a signal. Employers are rebalancing their early careers strategies, and apprenticeships have stepped firmly into the spotlight: they are now a core part of workforce planning.
ISE’s latest survey also shows that for every one apprentice hired; employers are now hiring 1.8 graduates. Last year, that figure was 2.3 graduates per apprentice, and by next year it’s expected to fall to 1.6 graduates per apprentice. In plain terms, apprenticeships are making up a larger share of total early career hires and that trend appears to be accelerating.
Why? Because they work. Apprenticeships offer:
- Real skills that match operational needs.
- Structured development over time, not just a one-off qualification.
- Cost-effective recruitment, especially in sectors facing skills shortages.
And for learners, they offer something equally important: a chance to earn, learn, and grow in a professional environment with support, structure, and purpose.
What we offer at TTE
We specialise in engineering and laboratory technician apprenticeships, designed with employers and delivered by experienced instructors. Our programmes include:
- Mechanical and electrical engineering: From bench fitting to instrumentation and maintenance, we train to industry standards
- Science-based apprenticeships: including the Level 2 Science Manufacturing Process Operative and Level 3 apprenticeships: Laboratory Technician, Science Manufacturing Technician and Science Industry Maintenance Technician
- Behavioural development: Communication, safety awareness, and resilience are embedded throughout
Additionally, we offer a Level 2 Study Programme for 16-18-year-olds who want to build
foundational skills before progressing to a full apprenticeship. It includes:
- A City & Guilds Level 2 NVQ in either mechanical or electrical engineering
- Practical training in wiring, fitting, and maintenance
- Personal development modules, interview prep, health & safety, and leadership and teamwork skills
Whether you’re starting at Level 2 or ready for a Level 3 apprenticeship, we’ll help you find the right route.
The commercial context
For businesses, the apprenticeship levy remains underused. Despite reforms, the apprenticeship levy remains underused. In 2025, UK employers have spent just 42% of their available funds, often held back by system complexity, limited support, and uncertainty about eligible training routes. We help change that. Our team works directly with employers to:
- Design training plans that meet operational needs
- Navigate funding options and maximise levy usage
- Support onboarding and development from day one
Apprenticeships are a strategic investment. In a region, like ours which is built on engineering, manufacturing, and innovation, they’re also essential.
Why this open evening matters
In November, we will be opening our doors to learners, parents, and employers for a chance to see what we do, how we do it, and why it matters.
Here’s what you can expect:
- Tour our facilities and see where apprentices train
- Meet our instructors and training officers – ask questions, receive honest answers
- Explore our programmes, from Level 2 study programmes to advanced Level 3 apprenticeships
- Hear from current apprentices about their experience, challenges, and progress
Whether you’re a school leaver weighing your options, a parent looking for clarity, or an employer planning your next intake, this evening is designed to help you make informed decisions.
We know apprenticeships might not be for everyone, but if you’re curious and want to understand what they really offer, please come and see for yourself. No pressure. No jargon. Just a chance to explore, ask, and decide.
